Emerging readers need understandings of the elements of literacy such as letter knowledge, concepts of words and phonemes to develop their early reading and writing skills. In the current essay I will suppose that I am a teacher, and I will describe what activities/strategies I will be using for promoting children’s emerging literacy. I think this process is important and will be helpful for children and their parents in the future.

Critical elements that influence children’s early reading and writing skills are the facts that children do not have proper childhood, they are constantly concentrate on something, they get tired and exhausted- too much for their age. There are also many contradictive opinions considering the fact when children should start become literate. Isn’t it too early to start for them from such an early age? Promotion of the emerging literacy has to be carefully thought-out and there have to be certain plans and goals implemented.

However, emerging literacy should be promoted among children, but they should note be forced to do anything difficult and specific. There should be a certain freedom offered for them to make them get involved faster and easier. If children are not forced into reading, it is more likely that they get interested in the process themselves. Parents have to be attentive with children at such moments. From a position of a teacher I would use activities that will make everything more interesting for children to explore, to find out. I think that motivation and freedom are extremely important and can give great results. Emerging literacy helps to create any number of opportunities for children to practice their unconventional yet emerging skills and lead to the best possible outcome.
