In contemporary American society the reform of the existing Healthcare system is one of the most significant as it demands huge costs and does not provide effective solutions for this inputs. A number of different attempts and solutions were already made to make the system more effective and patients friendly. But honestly speaking they did not reach the desired effect. For the past several months President Obama and his cabinet alongside with the Congressional Leaders released so called the 10 Ways to Cut Health-Care Costs Right Now, which are aimed to improve the existing system. This research would examine the correlation of the 10 Ways to Cut Health-Care Costs Right Now to each of the 6 points of the RWJF Blueprint for Change that Dr. Lavizzo-Mourey describes in The Road to Reform.
Correlation between the 6 points of the RWJF Blueprint for Change described in The Road to Reform and the 10 Ways to Cut Health-Care Costs Right Now.
From the very beginning it would be essential to define the points and ways that are being discussed. The following are the points suggested by Dr. Lavizzo-Mourey in The Road to Reform, as the vision of professionals on the situation:
Cover the uninsured
Improve the quality, value and equality of health care
Bring down spending
Prevent disease and promote healthier lifestyles
Strengthen public health’s capacity to protect our health
Address the social determinants of health (Lavizzo-Mourey, 2009).
It goes without saying that each of these points is very important for the contemporary changes American Healthcare system requires as it covers all the most significant problems observed in the contemporary situation and the following would cover the 10 solutions suggested by the government:
1. Crack down on fraud and abuse
2. Develop a healthy workforce
3. Coordinate care through family doctors
4. Make health a community effort
5. Stop infections in hospitals
6. Get patients to take their medicine
7. Discuss options near the end of life
8. Use insurance to manage chronic disease
9. Let well informed patients decide
10. Apologize to the patient (Arnst, 2009).
It should be noted that each of these points in some way correlate to the Dr. Lavizzo-Mourney ideas, hence they need discussion in details.
If we look at the first point at Dr. Lavizzo-Mourney’s report then we note that such important problem as uninsured did not find its reflections in the 10 Ways to Cut Health-Care Costs Right Now. It would be essential to make a stress on the fact that The Road to Reform covers more global questions, which does not deal with the immediate cut of money. Only one point Bring down spending could deal with cut of the expenses. The uninsured are still left among the most severe problems and they would stay the problem until effective solution would be fund. President Obama Administration did not find it. Crack down on fraud and abuse and Develop a healthy workforce alongside with the Apologize to the patient perfectly correlate to the Improve the quality, value and equality of health care. This gives one more prove to the fact that Dr. Lavizzo-Mourney’s report was speaking about more general ideas aimed on improving the systems and Obama’s Admionistration suggestions about more concrete. Another prove to this fact could be seen in the following. Prevent disease and promote healthier lifestyles includes the followings points from the Obama suggestions Make health a community effort, Stop infections in hospitals, Get patients to take their medicine. Personally I support the vision that both reports have a lot of in common hence some very important things mentioned in The Road to Reform are missed in Obama’s suggestions report. I think that some points from Dr. Lavizzo-Mourney’s report should be taken by the Congress leaders and President Obama to view, as the professional knew the industry from the inside and perfectly orient in the drawbacks of the whole systems and necessities to improve. It should b noted that the American Healthcare system needs definitely new approach to the reformation that is why it would be necessary if the executives take into account the vision of professionals. The analysis of these two reports showed us that they have a lot of in common; hence there are some differences between the visions of the government and the doctors. That is why the perfect solution would be to unite the suggested ideas and create collaborative plan.
In the end I would like to focus on the fact that only collaborative practice would help to solve the existing problems. Personally I think that both reports relate to a number of the same problems and have a lot of in common. Hence the vision of professionals on the industry and the vision of the government significantly differ. That is why it is not surprising that they provide different solutions for the set problems. The main difference between them is that The Road to Reforms has more generalized vision and Governmental report more concrete.
