BACKGROUND
Introduced by John F. Kennedy in 1961, the Peace Corps is an organization devoted to placing volunteers into developing nations. These volunteer teachers, health workers, engineers, and agricultural workers help to improve the skills and quality of life for the native peoples while living among them. The primary goal of the Peace Corps is to promote world peace and to increase mutual understanding between Americans and the people of other nations.
